  • Home Health Aide
  • Nurse’s Aide
  • Phlebotomist
  • Electrocardiograph Aide

Each one of these program is different. It requires different skills and knowledge. Choosing the one you want to do means understanding what you’ll do in that profession.

How to Choose the Healthcare Job That’s Right for You

One of the best ways to choose a healthcare job is to know what it’s like to work it. This means shadowing someone who is in that occupation. You can find many patient care techs, phlebotomists, home health aides, etc. in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and healthcare facilities. To shadow them, you simply need to ask if they would allow it.

Most healthcare setting allow people to shadow their workers because they know this is what people need when they are considering work in the medical field.

When you shadow someone, you simply stand beside them and observe what they do over the course of the day. You will be able to see exactly what the person does throughout the day, and then decide if that is something you would like to do.

It may take a few days to grasp exactly what the person does day in and day out, so if it’s possible to shadow someone for more than a day, that is the best thing to do. That way you may be able to catch someone on a good day and on a bad day.

Other Ways to Choose Which Healthcare Job You Want

You can choose a healthcare program without shadowing someone. You can do research online. With YouTube, you can look up each of the types of jobs to see what it is like. You can also read about it. You will find a lot information about each job online, and you may even find some personal stories of people working in the field. Usually, this is the best way to gauge if the job is something you really want to do.

Transitioning careers isn’t easy, but it could be the best decision you ever made. Start researching and asking people if you can shadow them. As soon as you do that, you’ll be able to make a decision that could change your life for the better.
