Patient Care Technician Training at Florida Healthcare Academy

Good news! We have a new course starting June 1, 2016 – Patient Care Technician.

At Florida Healthcare Academy, we are committed to providing the best in education and training to prepare people to enter the medical field. As we grow, we introduce new courses to give our students more options for specialties that will interest them.

About Being a Certified Patient Care Technician

Nurses and doctors depend on patient care technicians to provide daily care to patients. Often times, this is alongside medical professionals and is hands-on with the patients. This care is needed around the clock every single day, so flexibility in scheduling is possible.

Since the needs of patients vary significantly, it’s important for students to learn all of the information and skills needed to care for them. That information and skills training is offered by Florida Healthcare Academy.

What You’ll Do as a Certified Patient Care Technician

The following are some of the tasks you will perform as a patient care technician:

  • Bathing
  • Feeding
  • Catheter care
  • Gather, distribute, and provide supplies
  • Obtain EKG readings
  • Monitor vital signs
  • Perform phlebotomy
  • Offer emotional support to patients and their families

The Need for Patient Care Technicians

The Baby Boomers are getting older, so healthcare facilities, hospitals, and nursing homes are in great need of patient care technicians. Usually, there aren’t enough people to take care of the number of patients who need help, so staff becomes overwhelmed and burned out. With more patient care technicians entering the medical field, the occupation will be much more enjoyable.

In addition to helping staff already in the patient care field, the number of jobs are plentiful. This means there is less of a chance of unemployment due to recessions or layoffs. When stability is important to you, becoming a patient care technician is the right choice.
